RV Departure Checklist
Use this as a starting point for your own departure list. Follow your RV, tow-vehicle and hitch manuals for the checks and order that apply. Skip equipment you do not have; add model-specific checks.
Inside
- Secure all loose items and close drawers
- Refrigerator latched, contents secured
- Windows and roof vents closed
- Water pump off, water heater off
- TV antenna / satellite dish down
- Slide-outs in, slide locks set
Outside
- Disconnect and stow shore power cord
- Disconnect water, stow hose
- Sewer hose rinsed, capped, and stowed
- Stabilizer jacks fully up
- Entry steps in
- Awning fully retracted and locked
- Remove and stow chocks at the point specified in your vehicle and hitch procedure
- Walk-around: compartments latched, nothing left behind
Hitch & Drive
- Inspect the hitch and use only the lubrication specified for that hitch
- Coupler/kingpin locked, pin in place
- For a towing setup that uses safety chains, attach them as specified by its manufacturer
- Breakaway cable connected to tow vehicle
- Inspect and test the breakaway system using its manufacturer’s procedure
- 7-way plug connected; lights and brakes checked
- Tire pressure checked cold
- Mirrors adjusted, brake controller set
